RETRACTED: Statement on Citrus Legislative Delegation Canceling Constituent Meeting

Upon further review by our team, we discovered that we had incorrect information about the constituent meeting and that cancellation was for last year instead of this one.

I apologize for the error.

President, Democratic Equality Caucus of Citrus County.

Lecanto, Florida Release: November 17, 2021. For Immediate Release

As a needless special session continues in Tallahassee, aimed at protecting “freedom” at the expense of public health, the pandemic continues to ravage our state. Florida House Representative Ralph Massulo and Senate President Wilton Simpson announced that they would be canceling a constituent meeting in December for “health and safety reasons.” Democratic Equality Caucus of Citrus County President Nathan Sharp issued the following statement in response.

“The rank hypocrisy of the Florida GOP is staggering yet not altogether unexpected. Making political points with a base that has been stirred to a frenzy by disinformation and rabid rhetoric has become the primary goal of the GOP. Good governance has been discarded in favor of a twisted form of libertarianism and political gaslighting that threatens the health and safety of every Floridian.”

“Using ‘health and safety’ as a reason for cancelling a constituent meeting is simply an excuse to escape being held accountable by constituents. These meetings provide a vital forum for people to communicate their opinions and frustrations to their elected officials. The residents of Citrus County deserve better representation in Tallahassee."
